Jelena Makarova, Piano

Russian-Lithuanian pianist Jelena Makarova will present a varied and well-balanced programme of works by Beethoven, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Schubert.

Jelena Makarova started playing piano at the age of five and began her training as a pianist at the Lithuanian M.K.Ciurlionis State School of Arts. Jelena then continued her studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. During her studies Jelena became a winner of the J. Gruodis National Piano Competition for Young Pianists. Her competition winner’s recital was broadcasted on the National Radio. During this period Jelena also performed at the British Embassy in Lithuania. Jelena graduated from the Lithuanian Music Academy with honours in Piano Performance, Accompaniment and Piano Teaching.

Jelena then was accepted to study at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where she studied piano with Colin Stone and chamber music with Nicola Eimer and Michael Dussek. During her studies, Jelena had a public master class with the French pianist, Pierre Laurent-Aimard. Jelena also won 3rd prize at the Marlow International Piano Concerto Competition, UK. She also performed at the Gyorgy Kurtag‘s music festival ‘Games, Signs and Messages’, Lidkoping International Music Festival in Sweden and Chetham’s International Summer School for Young Pianists. Jelena graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2006 obtaining her Postgraduate Diploma in Piano Performance.

Jelena frequently appears in the recitals and music festivals in the UK, Sweden, Lithuania and Russia. Her performances include piano recitals at the world renowned St. George’s Hall in Bristol, ‘Pianists of the World’ series at the St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Purcell Room, The Forge Venue, St. James’s Church Piccadilly, Beethoven Piano Society of Europe, The Red Hedgehog, The Space, Foundling Museum, Christ Church Spitalfields, Bristol and Chelmsford cathedrals and many more.
